Concert Aestas Musica at St George''s ChurchThe international ensemble of baroque music Aestas Musica held concert at St. George's Church in London, Friday, 20th January 2006
The International Summer School of Baroque Music and Dance and the Croatian Embassy in London organised a concert of baroque music by various composers, including a sonata written by the Istrian baroque composer Gabriel Usper. As many as twenty seven artists from eight countries performed at the concert, all of them teachers and students at the International Summer School of Baroque Music and Dance Aestas Musica.

"Fox me pozvao u goste. U Harrogateu nas docekaše uprav kraljevski. Nikad takovo bogatstvo vidio nijesam. ..." This is how in his autobiography "My Life", Vlaho Bukovac described his stay in Harrogate. We also find out from the book that, some time around 1880, Bukovac enjoyed friendship of wealthy patrons and that it was an exceptionally fruitful period during which he painted numerous portraits.

An exhibition at the Mercer Art Gallery sets out to re-discover this Croatian artist for English audiences, and to promote the search for some of his missing masterpieces. Blaise Bukovac was a Croatian painter of grand historical scenes, great Victorian businessmen and Pre-Raphaelite style nudes. A cosmopolitan European, he trained in Paris and worked there and in Belgrade, Prague, Dubrovnik, Zagreb…. Liverpool and Harrogate.

As a part of a gradual restoration of the permanent display, a gallery was opened on 22nd November at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, dedicated to the most important objects made of sacred silver and stained glass and connected with various religious rituals and sacral architecture from the Middle ages until today. The exhibition was opened by the Bishop of Oxford The Rev Richard Harries in front of five hundred people, many of whom were representatives of various religious communities in the UK. Director of the Museum Mr Mark Jones pointed out in his speech, that one of the most interesting exhibits shown in the gallery was the Shrine of St Simeon, an exact copy of the medieval shrine in Zadar, Croatia. Another speaker at the opening was Mr Michael Gettleson, Director of the Whiteley Charitable Trust which donated million and six hundred pounds for this project.28.11.2005. | Press releases

In order to commemorate 150 years since Vlaho Bukovac was born, an exhibition of his paintings opened in Liverpool on 17th November 2005. "Vlaho Bukovac and his Northern Patrons" is a first exhibition that explores links between the Croatian artist and his British patrons, and as such will serve as an incentive to look for Bukovac''s paintings that had been owned by his patrons but have gone missing since the beginning of the 20th century. The Croatian Embassy in London organised a private view at Walker Art Gallery at which were present various European art experts and representatives of the city authorities.
