The Minister of State for Trade and Commerce Mr Micheal Ahern TD led the first trade delegation to Croatia from 26 till 28 March 2007. He met with the Prime Minsiter of the Republic of Croata Dr Ivo Sanader and Minister for Economy, Labour and Enterpreneurship Mr Branko Vukelic.

During Minister Ahern's visit business talks were held in the field of information technology. Also, Irish businessmen were informed about the work of the Croatian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Croatian Agency for Small Business.
Minister Ahern stressed the importance of further enhancing relationships between Ireland and Croatia, at business and Government levels. He said the pattern of trade between the two countries has been one of steady growth. Key sectors of opportunity include: software for banks, telecoms, enterprise and government applications; services and technologies in environment, construction, foodstuffs and development; and sub-supply to the electronics, engineering and shipbuilding industries. Minister Ahern also reiterated Ireland's firm support of Croatia in its objective of joining the European Union.
