Istria-Green Mediterranean

The presentation «Istria – Green Mediterranean» was held on 14 March 2007 at the Berkeley Court Hotel in Dublin, followed by an Istrian dinner. The presentation was organised by the Istria Tourism Board and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, in co-operation with the Croatian Tourism Board.

The presentation «Istria – Green Mediterranean» was held on 14 March 2007 at the Berkeley Court Hotel in Dublin, followed by an Istrian dinner. The presentation was organised by the Istria Tourism Board and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, in co-operation with the Croatian Tourism Board. Following the introduction of direct flights to Pula, Istria, it is expected that the number of Irish guests to Croatia will increase further. Istria was represented by the Istria Tourism Board as well as representatives from hotels and tourism agencies (Istraturist, Valamar, Plava laguna, Maistra, Rovinjturist, Arenaturist, Hotel San Rocco, Guidina, Istrian Experience i Sunce, Sol i More). Guests included Irish tour operators and journalists, representatives of Ryanair, the Irish-Croatian Business Association, Mr Gerard Danaher, Croatian Honorary Consul in Ireland. Special guests included the Apostolic Nuncio, as well as Ambassadors of Italy, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. The event included a presentation on Istria, talks between representatives from Istria and Irish partners, followed by an Istrian dinner. Mr Tomislav Popovic, Director of Istria Tourist Board expressed his hope that the event will further enhance the ties between the two countries and thus increase the number of visitors from Ireland. In his address, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia Mr Veselko Grubisic expressed his delight with the introduction of direct flights to Pula which will further increase tourism and economic relations. He stressed the importance and appreciation of Ireland's support for Croatia to become a full member of the European Union. He also spoke about the natural, cultural and culinary delights of Istria as well as the hospitality Istrian people are known for. Speakers at the event also included Mr Jim Nugent, President of the Irish-Croatian Business Association, Mr Bernard Berger from Ryanair and Ms Julia Berg, Director of Charisma PR. The presentation on Istria was given by Mr Tomislav Popovic, Director of the Istria Tourism Board. He spoke about geographical data on Croatia and Istria, as well as the important facts on Istrian economy, tourism and attractions. The event «Istria – Green Mediterranean» has further enhanced contacts between Irish tour-operators and journalists with their Istrian counterparts and will facilitate greater business activities between Croatia and Ireland.
