Economic relations
In 2022, an increase in total trade was recorded, reaching EUR 159 million, which is an increase of 204% compared to 2021. Croatian exports amounted to EUR 114 million. Imports reached EUR 45 million. In recent years, with the exception of 2019, Croatia has been achieving a surplus in trade with Israel.
During 2022, Croatia was visited by 40,063 tourists from Israel, with 114,976 overnight stays. During the first eight months of 2023, Croatia was visited by 36,022 tourists from Israel, with 105,359 overnight stays, which represents an increase of 0,12% in arrivals and 0,10% in overnight stays, in comparison with the same period in 2022.
Potential areas for strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and Israel are: agricultural and food industry, information and communication technologies, energy and tourism.
Bilateral consultations between economic diplomacies of both countries’ Foreign Ministries were held in Zagreb in September 2023, with the aim of determining the priority areas of cooperation and mentoring within the framework of the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the OECD.
Joint calls for bilateral projects are published within the framework of the joint Croatian-Israeli Fund for the financing of scientific and technological cooperation. The last Public call for research projects for the period 2023-2025, in the field of renewable energy sources: hydrogen-based energy, photovoltaic energy, energy storage and wind energy, with a total value of $1 million (each side contributes $500,000) has been completed in September 2023.
