As the first resident Croatian Ambassador in Ireland, I am very happy that we have forged many friendships here, and we expect that already excellent relations existing between the two countries will strengthen even further.
If one compares Croatia and Ireland, many striking similarities are soon noticeable. Apart from the population and the size of the two countries, we share similar views, values and historical backgrounds, not only a long struggle for independence, but also related to the sizeable emigration.
As Croatia advances on its path to join the European integrations, it looks up to the outstanding Irish example of achieving the status of one of the most competitive and prosperous economies in Europe. Croatia already has a steady economic growth and at the same time one of the lowest inflation rates in Europe. Its macroeconomic indicators are very promising, which further induces optimism to achieve the aim of joining the EU.
In particular, Croatia is ambitious to become a regional hub in the area of information and communication technology as well as in the field of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Croatian ports already serve as main doors to several Central European countries, i.e. Vienna, Munich and Budapest can be reached within several hours by newly built road network. It is well known that Croatia has thousand islands, but also has as many or more cultural monuments which are an important part of world heritage, as many beautiful natural wonders, and thousand business opportunities.
As Croatia is building bridges between mainland and its islands, a main task of the Croatian Embassy in Dublin is to build a bridge between Croatia and "the green island" – Ireland. We hope that these pages serve in executing this engineering task.
An old legend says that every person in the world has its match or, in fact, the other half. Only together they are complete beings. In the same way, if a country is searching for its other half, I strongly feel that Ireland can be such a country for Croatia.
To me, being in Ireland very often feels like being at home!
