The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 4 November 2019 hosted a working meeting with Croatian ambassadors and permanent representatives to the EU member states and international organizations

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 4 November 2019 hosted a working meeting with Croatian ambassadors and permanent representatives to the EU member states and international organizations on the activities during Croatia’s Council of the EU chairmanship.

The ceremonial part of the meeting saw addressed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman. Plenković reflected on the current processed within the EU, power ratio among the member states and Croatia’s obligations during chairmanship. Our priorities are known and will have to be promoted in a harmonized and systematic manner, the prime minister said.

Grlić Radman underscored the uniqueness of this task for Croatia, asking all of Foreign Service employees to be ready for extraordinary efforts and self-sacrifice so that we could rise to the occasion.

The meeting discussed all the aspects and specifics of Croatia’s six-month chairmanship, including the political, economic, cultural and logistical aspects of planned activities, as well as the best way to communicate with the public and protect from hybrid threats. Lectures were delivered by state secretaries at the MFEA Andreja Metelko-Zgombić and Nikolina Brnjac, Permanent Representative to Brussels Irena Andrassy and officials of the Culture Ministry, which has prepared the main part of the cultural programme that will accompany Croatia’s chairmanship.  

Representatives to international organizations held separate consultations with the relevant MFEA directorate generals. Apart from the foreign policy aspect of upcoming responsibilities for the Croatian diplomacy, the participants discussed the responsibilities in terms of trade and development policies.
