USKOK dismisses Sabljak’s criminal charges

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 19 September 2018 received a decision by the Office for the Suppression of Organized Crime and Corruption (USKOK), dismissing the charges filed by Damir Sabljak regarding Loreta Bertoša-Kušen’s deployment to Australia

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 19 September 2018 received a decision by the Office for the Suppression of Organized Crime and Corruption (USKOK), dismissing the charges filed by Damir Sabljak regarding Loreta Bertoša-Kušen’s deployment to Australia, as well as his claims about the findings of the Office of the Chef State Auditor regarding local staff at the Croatian embassy in Washington in 2016, during ambassador Joško Paro’s term of office.

Despite said charges being filed against “unknown perpetrators”, media and parliament discussions unfoundedly named a number of state officials as perpetrators of the alleged wrongdoings as well as their concealment by the Croatian foreign service. All claims about organized embezzlement and its concealment have by said decision been completely dismissed.

MP Grmoja’s claims that “minister Pejčinović Burić did nothing to launch to any sort of proceedings” is a fabrication and manipulation. USKOK’s decision clearly states that the foreign ministry has immediately taken all actions within its competence, regardless of the fact that these events took place while the ministry was being led by other people, i.e. before the appointment of the current deputy prime minister and foreign minister.

Based on said facts, which have been confirmed by USKOK, there are no grounds on which to launch proceedings against state officials at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
