State Secretary Pejčinović Burić received to working meeting Volker Hoff, Hessen’s State Minister of Federal and European Affairs

State Secretary for European Integration Marija Pejčinović Burić received 8 December 2006 to working meeting Volker Hoff, the State Minister of Federal and European Affairs of the Federal State of Hessen, the Federal Republic of Germany

Following the positive examples of the co-operation between the federal states of Baden Württemberg and Bavaria with the Republic of Croatia, a mutual desire was expressed for the strengthening of the overall co-operation between the Federal State of Hessen and the Republic of Croatia, especially in the field of economy.

As regards Croatia’s EU accession, State Minister Hoff expressed Hessen’s and Germany’s support for Croatia in its EU membership negotiations. He also noted the priorities of Germany’s presidency, pointing out the ratification of the Agreement on the EU Constitution as one of the biggest challenges.

Regarding a tighter co-operation between the Federal State of Hessen and the Republic of Croatia, State Minister Hoff emphasised the readiness and support for the economic co-operation, notably in the field of energy supplies and telecommunications.

At the end of the meeting, the two pointed out the very good bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Croatia, the proof of which are direct foreign investments, the overall foreign trade, parliamentary co-operation, joint commissions and Germany’s technical assistance. In that regard, State Secretary Pejčinović Burić thanked for Germany’s support so far, especially in the field of European integration, and expressed a wish for the continuation and strengthening of the two countries’ successful co-operation.
