State Secretary for European Affairs Metelko-Zgombić 7 May 2019 in Riga held consultations with State Secretary at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs.

The two officials discussed topical EU matters and the priorities of Croatia’s upcoming Council of the EU presidency. They confirmed shared views and interests in a number of areas. As regards Croatia’s EU presidency, Metelko-Zgombić underlined security, the promotion of growth and development, transport and energy connectivity, as well as EU enlargement as the main priorities.  She stressed the importance of keeping the open door policy and upholding the European perspective of Southeast European countries. She informed her Latvian colleague about the current status of Croatia’s accession to the Schengen Area and eurozone. Pelšs voiced support for Croatia and congratulated on active preparations for Croatia’s first Council of the EU presidency, wishing luck and success in performing this demanding task.

Metelko-Zgombić also met with Head of the EU Coordination and Policies Department, Martinš Klive, with whom she exchanged views on the topical EU issues – the future of Europe, Brexit, MFF, Schengen, immigration and single market.
