State Secretary for European Affairs Andreja Metelko Zgombić 17 April 2018 in Luxembourg attended a meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC).

The Council discussed amendments to the Electoral Act which lays down a number of common rules concerning elections to the European Parliament. The Council will continue trying to reach an agreement on this issue as soon as possible.

The Council discussed the situation with regard to the rule of law in Poland. The European Commission informed the ministers about the latest developments in its dialogue with the Polish authorities.

The ministers heard a presentation from the Commission on its new enlargement package. The Commission evaluated the progress of all candidate and potential candidate countries in the implementation of reforms, reiterating its recommendations for launching accession talks with Macedonia and Albania. The Council should adopt conclusions on the subject in June.
