State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić on Wednesday met with a delegation of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Algerian People’s National Assembly. The officials underscored satisfaction with friendly relations between Croatia and Algeria, intensified by political consultations in Algiers in February and a visit by a delegation of the Croatian Parliament in March.

Matušić said Algeria was strategically important for the security and stability of the Mediterranean, highlighting culture, tourism and energy as areas where Croatia-Algeria cooperation could stand to be strengthened. Committee Chairman Salim Merah reflected on the efforts Algeria is investing in renewable energy, notably blue and green hydrogen, as well as solar energy. In that context, Croatia, as a regional energy hub, sees prospects for new projects with Algeria. In addition, Algeria is interested in assistance from Croatian tourist and agricultural experts.

The officials agreed that the historic and friendly ties between the two countries, augmented by a stronger legal framework and the recently-founded Croatian-Algerian Business Council, would contribute to the realization of concrete projects at all levels.
