State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić on Tuesday in Paris attended the OECD High-Level Conference on Southeast Europe.

Lucić participated in a panel on “Human Capital Flight”, along with Slovenia’s acting Development Cooperation Minister Stanislav Raščan, Kosovo’s Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade Rozeta Hajdari and North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs Fatmir Bytyqi. The panel was moderated by Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Patricia Danzi.

The state secretary shared Croatia’s experiences with diaspora, the strengthening of ties and the protection of their rights, underscoring that protecting the rights and interests of Croats abroad was embedded into the Croatian Constitution.

Lucić stressed that the Croatian Government was committed to the nurturing of ties with diaspora and facilitating their return, adding that various demographic measures had been introduced to curb emigration and encourage citizens to start a family. The end goal of these efforts is to stimulate the return of emigrants, diversify the workforce and improve the business climate in Croatia.
