State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić in Brussels attended a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in its development configuration. The meeting was chaired by EC Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. In attendance, along with ministers and state secretaries, was Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen.

The participants took stock of the fulfilment of obligations assumed at the EU-AU summit of February 2022, when an investment package worth 150 billion euro was presented. The investments will primarily be directed towards critical infrastructure, healthcare, energy, education, trade, and sustainable agricultural systems, which should strengthen the overall Europe-Africa relations, notably in the context of geopolitical challenges caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The participants then discussed the response of Team Europe to the crises whose intensity and global impact far outweigh other humanitarian challenges and threats – the war in Ukraine and the situation in Afghanistan.
