State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić attended the informal meeting of European Union ministers responsible for development in Cadiz on September 4 and 5.

The central topic of the meeting was confirmation of strengthening the contribution of the European Union and its Member States in the realization of the United Nations Program on Sustainable Development until 2030 (Agenda 2030) and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the exchange of views with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, the participants specifically referred to the upcoming summit dedicated to the achievement of sustainable development goals, the response to the consequences of climate change, and the reform of the existing global financial architecture. In addition, the participants discussed the role of the European Union and its Member States in strengthening the social component in the framework of the triple transition (green-digital-social) and the reform of multilateral development banks in order to provide appropriate financial assistance to developing countries.

State Secretary Lucić pointed out that the Republic of Croatia is right on schedule to achieve the goals of sustainable development, despite numerous challenges such as the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and two devastating earthquakes. At the same time, we provide solidarity assistance to partner countries in dealing with the consequences of global challenges in order to achieve progress towards sustainable and fair development of all segments of society, the State Secretary said.
