Meeting of State Secretary Metelko-Zgombić with the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, Gatti Santana

On September 5, 2023, State Secretary Andreja Metelko-Zgombić met with the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Graciela Gatti Santana, on her first visit to the Republic of Croatia in that capacity.
 
The State Secretary expressed dissatisfaction with the decision on the conditional early release of convicted war criminal Franko Simatović, which the president of the IRMCT made at the end of August this year.
 
They also discussed the cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the IRMCT and its future work and exit strategy, the status of Croatian citizens who are serving sentences, as well as the importance of cooperation between the countries of Southeast Europe with the IRMCT as an essential component of the process of their accession to the European Union.
