State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević received to inaugural visit Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil Harold Valladao on Tuesday, 23 January 2007

Meeting with Brazilian Ambassador Valladao, State Secretary Biščević said that the Republic of Croatia was endeavouring to intensify bilateral co-operation with the countries which are not members of EU or NATO, parallel with its pursuit of its chief strategic goals, EU and NATO membership. He said Brazil was surely one of these countries, and added that further efforts would be taken in the forthcoming period aiming to increase parliamentary collaboration, economic trade and Croatian export to Brazil. Furthermore, State Secretary proposed that the possibility for Brazil’s participation in the International Zagreb Autumn Fair, as well as increasing ship traffic and container trade through the Port of Rijeka, be considered.

Ambassador Valladao said the Federal Republic of Brazil supported the Republic of Croatia on its path to the European Union and NATO, a well as a stronger Croatian involvement in the UN by presenting the candidature for temporary membership in the UN Security Council for the 2008 – 2009 term. The Federal Republic of Brazil is especially interested in enhancing economic collaboration with the Republic of Croatia, including tourism.
