State Secretary Božinović first thanked for Eritrea’s support for Croatia’s non-permanent UN Security Council membership

State Secretary Božinović first thanked for Eritrea’s support for Croatia’s non-permanent UN Security Council membership.

The meeting pointed out that Somalia is one of the world’s largest crisis areas, and Croatia is concerned for the safety of its seamen crossing the Aden Bay and falling victim to Somali pirates at an increasing rate.

State Secretary Božinović pointed out that Croatia support Somalia’s transitional government, adding that its successful dealing with the crisis depends on the support by Eritrea and neighbouring countries in the region.

A solution is already being jointly sought by numerous international organizations, namely the UN, African Union, EU, and NATO, who is patrolling the sea around Somalia, ensuring safe sailing. In that regard, State Secretary Božinović communicated Croatia’s position that Eritrea, as well as all other interested countries, should communicate and cooperate more intensively with international organizations, so that peace and stability can be achieved in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
