The collocutors discussed the state of bilateral relations, international security, human rights, economic and regional cooperation, and the state of affairs in the Near East.

State Secretary Božinović informed Deputy Minister Safari about Croatia’s preparations for joining NATO and the state of the negotiations with the EU. He pointed out the right of each country to a peaceful use of nuclear energy, but in a transparent manner and abiding by the regulations from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. In that regard, he stressed the need to respect the relevant resolution of the UN Security Council.

He emphasized Croatia’s firm dedication to the global war on terror, to which it dedicated a thematic session of the UN Security Council, held 9 December 2008 in New York under Croatia’s chairmanship. Speaking about the Croatian forces’ participation in NATO’s ISAF mission in Afghanistan, Božinović pointed out the importance of the neighbouring countries for Afghanistan’s stability and progress.

He expressed support for the Near-East peace process and a solution that would enable the two countries’ peaceful coexistence, noting the importance of respecting the historical facts about the Holocaust in achieving peace in the Near East.

The meeting also discussed the state of affairs in South Eastern Europe, as well as regional cooperation. It was pointed out that apart from respecting the equality of the three constitutive nations, religious and ideological temperance in a recipe for the stability and progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
