State Secretary Biščević received U. S. Department of Defense high official Van Egmond
State Secretary for Political Affairs Hido Biščević received today, 24 January 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Director for Europe, Balkans and Eurasia at the U. S. Department of Defense, Alan Van Egmond
Director Van Egmond stressed that the U. S. firmly supports Croatia’s NATO membership and expressed his conviction that Croatia can significantly contribute to the activities of the Alliance. Croatian Government’s efforts to upgrade Croatia’s defense capabilities were commended and support was expressed to further reforms in approaching the NATO standards. The U. S. side believes Croatia’s role in regional defense initiatives to be positive, especially its active contribution to the U. S.-Adriatic Charter and within the SEEDM (South East Europe Defense Ministers) initiative.
State Secretary Hido Biščević relayed Croatia’s full support to Proliferation Security Initiative and its principles of preventing the proliferation of WMAs. He also announced the continuation of Croatia’s active engagement in war on international terrorism.
