State Secretary Biščević invited Italian ambassador Grafini for a talk regarding an interview by Italian Deputy Prime Minister

State Secretary for Political Issues Hido Biščević invited today, 13 October 2004, Italian ambassador Alessandro Grafini for a talk regarding the interview Italian Deputy Prime Minister Gianfanco Fini gave to Croatian paper “Slobodna Dalmacija”

State Secretary Biščević pointed out that some of Fini’s statements are not in keeping with the overall spirit and content of the current Croatian-Italian relations. Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thinks that the overall mutual relations, the position of both countries’ national minorities and a shared orientation towards European standards and values cannot justify one-sided judgement about events from the past, especially after WW2 and its consequences.

Both parties agreed that the relations between Croatia and Italy are on the rise and that the future meetings, including the meeting of the Mixed Croatian-Italian Commission, due 22 November 2004 in Rome, will direct the relations towards solving concrete issues of economic, legal and other forms of co-operation between the two countries.
