State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić met on the fringes of Dubrovnik Forum with Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok

State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić met on the fringes of Dubrovnik Forum with Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok. The talks focused on bilateral relations, the COVID-19 pandemic, national recovery and resilience plans, Conference on the Future of Europe, and the Western Balkan countries in the context of enlargement.

Metelko-Zgombić and Korčok expressed satisfaction with the dynamic bilateral relations, as evidenced by a series of bilateral meeting and consultations held this year.

The two officials also exchanged views on the enlargement policy, state of affairs in the region – with an emphasis on Albania and North Macedonia, the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, and the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They agreed that enlargement was one of the EU’s most important policies, underscoring the need to maintain its credibility.

In addition, Metelko-Zgombić and Korčok discussed economic recovery and tourist cooperation, notably in the context of the threat posed by the Delta variant.

Korčok underlined the need to put forth maximum effort throughout Europe in the fight against the pandemic, including continued vaccination, which is still the basis for reviving the economy and safe travel.

Metelko-Zgombić welcomed the arrival of Slovak tourists in Croatia and the last month’s opening of Bratislava-Split railway.

The two officials also discussed European and national activities within the Conference on the Future of Europe.
