State Secretary Andrej Plenković met the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Croatia, Manuel Salazar

After having confirmed that bilateral relations between the two countries are very good, they exchanged information about the progress of Croatian accession negotiations. State Secretary Plenković said that he hoped that the Republic of Croatia would open the remaining three negotiating chapters by the end of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, and that the entire technical part of negotiations will be completed by the end of this year. Ambassador Salazar informed him about the cooperation between Spain and Belgium and Hungary as the countries that will hold the European Union presidency next, and he expressed his full support to the conclusion of accession negotiations in the near future followed by the accession of Croatia to the full membership of the European Union.

They also discussed the Union for the Mediterranean meeting of environmental ministers to be held next week in Dubrovnik. The Government of the Republic of Croatia is co-organising this meeting together with the Kingdom of Spain on behalf of the European Union, and with the French Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt which are co-chairing the Union for the Mediterranean.

The two parties also exchanged information about the situation in South-East Europe and expressed their support to all countries of the region joining the European Union.
