Republic of Croatia and Republic of Kenya established diplomatic relations

Assistant Foreign Minister Dražen Margeta met today, 1 December 2004 in Nairobi, with Kenyan Foreign Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere. Assistant Minister Margeta is taking part at the First Review Conference in Nairobi entitled “Mine Free World” that gathers the Ottawa Conference member countries

Croatian and Kenyan high officials expressed their conviction that the coming closer of the two countries will reflect the most in economy, trade, culture, education and transport. Minister Mwakwere expressed his wish for the opening of a Kenyan embassy to the Republic of Croatia, pointing out the insufficient representation of Kenya in Central and Eastern Europe. Margeta and Mwakwere discussed the return of Kenyan students to the Croatian University and the linking of Croatian and Kenyan sea ports, which would benefit both of the countries in their appearance on Central European and Eastern African markets respectively.

The Kenyan side positively reviewed the Croatian candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council for 2008-2009. Kenya considers Croatian arguments for membership to be justified.
