Press briefing held pending Brown Forum regional trade and investment conference

The conference is co-organized by Croatia and the US and is to be held 4-6 April 2011 in Dubrovnik

The briefing, apart from Secretary of State for Political Affairs Mario Nobilo, saw the participation of Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Zagreb Hoyt Yee, Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor to the President Romana Vlahutin, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship Robert Markt, and the Croatian Employers’ Association Deputy CEO Bernard Jakelić.

Secretary of State Nobilo expressed satisfaction with the holding of the conference at the time when Croatia is expecting to close the negotiations with the EU and many investors wish to position themselves before it accedes to full-fledged membership. He said he believed the conference would further stimulate economic cooperation and contribute to the networking between businessmen from Croatia, the US and other countries of South Eastern Europe. In that regard, he concluded that the conference would also serve as an opportunity for bilateral and trilateral initiatives between the countries in the region for the purposes of creating possibilities for joint appearances at third-party markets.

The conference is being organized by the US and Croatian government, the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Employers’ Association, and will also mark the 15th anniversary of the tragic death of a group of American businessmen led by then-Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.
