Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 17 April 2019 received on official visit Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz.

Pejčinović Burić and Czaputowicz underlined Croatia and Poland’s very good and friendly relations. The two countries share many of the same values and interests, which lays the foundation for continued strengthening of cooperation.

The two ministers agreed that economic cooperation and trade should be boosted, for which there are preconditions as both countries show stable economic growth.

Both officials voiced satisfaction with the strengthening of bilateral relations, notably in the area of defence, as well as through cooperation within regional initiatives such as V4+ and the Three Seas Initiative. They underscored the importance of interconnectedness in regard to energy, infrastructure and digitalization.

The meeting highlighted Croatia and Poland’s converging views on a number of topical EU and NATO matters. The Polish FM voiced strong support for Croatia’s joining the Schengen Area, OECD and the eurozone. The two ministers considered the prospect of mutual support in enlargement issues in the context of Poland’s chairmanship of the Berlin Process, transatlantic relations and the stability in Southeast and Eastern Europe.

Pejčinović Burić and Czaputowicz also discussed the future of the EU, MFF, upcoming European Parliament elections and Croatia’s EU presidency. They concurred that 2019 is a challenging year in which cooperation among all of the EU member states should be intensified in order to respond to current challenges.
