On 30 June 2003, a high level segment of the substantive session of the UN ECOSOC, lasting from 30 June to 2 July 2003 in Geneva, began. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General. The topic of this year session is: Promoting an integrated approach to rural development in developing countries for poverty eradication and sustainable development. The Croatian delegation, headed by Mr. Ivan Šimonović, Deputy Foreign Minister, also includes Mr. Tomislav Ledić, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

Deputy Foreign Minister Šimonović is presiding over the Minister's Round Table on rural and urban relations and slums in the organisation of the UN Habitat. Mr. Šimonović will also hold a speech on agricultural policy in Croatia in the context of the topic of this year's session.
