Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul, accompanied by the Chief State Attorney Mladen Bajić, met today 6 May 2004 in the Hague with the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, Carla del Ponte
Minister Miomir Žužul, Assistant Minister Neven Madey and Croatian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Frane Krnić met with the President of the Hague International Criminal Tribunal, Theodor Meron, with whom they talked about the way for Croatia to express its views on some of the charges from the indictments against the Croatian generals and refute some of the contentious parts of those documents. Tomorrow, 7 May 2004 in Strasbourg, President Theodor Meron will inform the Council of Europe about the activities of the International Criminal Tribunal and pass a judgement about the co-operation with Croatia.
Žužul and Meron also discussed the Tribunal’s support in the preparations of the Croatian judiciary to take on some of the cases that are currently within the Tribunal’s jurisdiction. Minister Žužul invited Theodor Meron to pay an official visit to Croatia, which he gladly accepted.
Later today, Minister Žužul met at the Dutch Senate with the MP of the Dutch Christian Democratic Party, Van der Linden. In the evening, Žužul will hold a lecture at the distinguished Dutch Atlantic Commission on the subject “Croatia’s achievements and challenges on the road to the EU and NATO”. The Atlantic Commission at the Hague is a distinguished European scientific-political institution that deals with the issues of EU and NATO security, as well as the relations between the EU and the US.
Tomorrow, 7 May 2004, Minister Žužul will meet with heads of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), as well as the Croatian citizens, members of the organisation.
At the end of his visit to the Hague, Minister Žužul and the Croatian delegation will held a bilateral meeting and a working lunch with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Bernard Bot and his associates.
