Ministry of Foreign Affairs received an urgent request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro

On Monday, 11 August 2003, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received an urgent request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, requesting the assistance of the Republic of Croatia in extinguishing the fire that broke out in the environs of Tivat.

In a telephone conversation with Mr. Dragiša Burzan, the Montenegrin Foreign Minister, Mr. Tonino Picula, the Croatian Foreign Minister, announced that a Canadair aeroplane would be provided. Conscious of the danger and the seriousness of natural disaster that has hit Montenegro, and which at the same time is ravaging the Croatian coast, the Republic of Croatia forwarded a Canadair aeroplane from Dubrovnik in order to extinguish the fire that broke out on 9 August in the environs of Tivat and which engulfed 12 km2 of pine forest extending to the wider area of Tivat and other places in Boka Kotarska.

Minister Burzan thanked for the assistance of the Republic of Croatia, and both Ministers agreed that the assistance in extinguishing the fire is another contribution to growing border cooperation between the competent bodies of the Republic of Croatia and Montenegro.
