Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday attended the opening of regional school Topolovac together with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto.

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hungarian humanitarian service of the Order of Malta, together with the City of Sisak and the relevant bodies of the state administration of the Republic of Croatia, and with the funds from the EU Solidarity Fund, enabled the return of 43 students to their renovated school.

Grlić Radman thanked Hungary for assisting in rebuilding the school, underscoring that the Croatian Government was working full speed on reconstructing all quake-hit regions.

“The Sisak-Moslavina County has to date reconstructed 50 odd large education, healthcare and welfare buildings used by tens of thousands of people. It has also renovated as much as 14 schools. There are more than 40 construction sites. In the past year, the county used more than 30 million euros from the Solidarity Fund for reconstruction,” Grlić Radman underscored.

He added that there are more than 500 reconstruction projects underway in the quake-hit region, the majority being public buildings, infrastructure, hospitals, schools and universities. Participating in the reconstruction are 291 companies with nearly 10 000 workers.

“To speed up the reconstruction and the absorption of funds, the Government has amended the legal framework and set up mobile monitoring teams,” the minister said.
