Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 31 March 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb with the Estonian Foreign Minister Kristiina Ojuland, who is on a two-day official visit to Croatia
Ministers Žužul and Ojuland emphasised the quality of the mutual political and traditionally friendly relations that continue to improve. Economic relations, however, are yet to reach a satisfactory level. The importance of Euro-Atlantic integrations for both countries was stressed, and Minister Žužul congratulated Minister Ojuland for Estonia’s joining NATO and soon-to-be-gained EU associate member status. In that regard, Minister Ojuland said that Estonia is willing to share its experiences with Croatia and expressed her conviction that Croatia too will become a member in the near future. At a press conference, Minister Ojuland pointed out the historical similarities between Croatia and Estonia, as well as the similarities in mentality and the fact that both countries are located on the important roads that link different European regions.
After the meeting, ministers Žužul and Ojuland signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Estonia on Air Traffic. Later, after meeting with the President of the Croatian parliament, Vladimir Šeks, Minister Ojuland will meet with the Croatian president Stjepan Mesić and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. Minister Žužul announced the soon visit of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to Estonia and Estonian President to Croatia.
