Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 24 March 2004, at the UN headquarters in New York, with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan
Minister Žužul confirmed the readiness of the Croatian government to fully co-operate with the Hague tribunal, which he sees as an obligation for Croatia, but also as a motivation to establish the truth about the defence and liberation character of the Croatia’s Homeland War, while maintaining its dignity.
Secretary General Annan expressed his satisfaction with Croatia’s progress and confirmed that Croatia is now a successful country that can serve as an example to other countries in the region. Kofi Annan invited Croatia to keep the leading role of a stability factor in the region and the promoter of good-neighbourly co-operation in Southeast Europe.
Minister Žužul emphasised the massive experience Croatia accumulated in post-war reconstruction and gaining of trust, and expressed the government interest for Croatia’s more decisive role in UN peacekeeping operations. Secretary General Annan expressed his satisfaction with Croatia’s participation in the peacekeeping missions so far, as well as with the fact that Croatia has fulfilled all its financial obligation towards the UN.
