Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 24 March 2004, in UN headquarters in New York, with the Security Council President for March, Ambassador Jean-Marc de La Sabli?re, France's permanent representative to the UN

Minister Žužul informed Ambassador De La Sabliere about the Croatian government’s goals and priorities, especially in approaching the EU, as well as about Croatia’s determination to continue being an active factor of stability and good-neighbourly co-operation in the region. Žužul and De La Sabliere exchanged opinions about the issues on the Security Council’s agenda, especially those pertaining to the activities of the Hague tribunal. Minister Žužul stressed Croatia’s determination in fulfilling the obligations towards the Hague, which does not mean questioning the basic values, dignity and historical context of the War for Independence. The importance of a consistent implementation of the International tribunal’s exit strategy, whose objective is the complete cessation of the Tribunal’s activities by 2010, was also discussed. Minister Žužul and Ambassador De La Sabliere exchanged opinions on the situation in the Middle East, and expressed their concern about its worsening. The Republic of Croatia, that at yesterday’s session of the Security Council aligned with the EU’s speech, closely watches the events in the Middle East and gives full support to the Security Council in finding the shortest way towards peace.
