Minister Žužul met today in London with MacShane, to meet with Solana tomorrow

Foreign Affairs Minister Miomir Žužul met today 2 December 2004 in London with UK Minister for Europe Denis MacShane

In an open and friendly talk, Žužul and MacShane held consultations concerning the European Council meeting in Brussels 16-17 December this year, when Croatia expects the decision on the start of the EU membership negotiations to be reached.

Minister MacShane reiterated that the UK supports in principle the EU Enlargement and in that context supports Croatia’s joining the EU. MacShane said that the UK recognises Croatia’s efforts and results on the road to the EU, reminding of the sole remaining open issue in Croatia’s co-operation with the ICTY that is the case of Gen. Gotovina.

Minister Žužul and Minister MacShane concluded at the end of the meeting that Croatia has made significant progress in satisfying the Copenhagen criteria and in conducting reforms pending the negotiations.

Minister Žužul is meeting tomorrow 3 December in Brussels with European Council Secretary General and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana.
