Congratulating Pusić on her appointment, Markaryan also applauded the positive outcome of Croatia’s EU membership referendum and stressed the importance of Croatia’s joining the European Union, with which Russia will continue to have productive relations.

Minister Pusić conveyed Croatia’s willingness to intensify and further advance the Croatian-Russian relations, as well as open a new chapter in bilateral relations. Both sides expressed interest in exchange visits by the two countries’ high officials, while the Croatian side stated a wish for setting up as liberal a visa regime as possible within the European standards for the Russian citizens visiting Croatia, which would continue the upward trend of tourist visits that has been going on since 2008.

The two officials paid special attention to the enhancement of economic cooperation, which would also be contributed to by the pending appointment of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Radimir Čačić to the position of the co-chair of Mixed Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Russian Federation.

Also discussed was the marking of the 20th anniversary of the Croatian-Russian diplomatic relations on 25 May this year, for which a series of cultural events are planned, promoting the two nations’ common historical ties.
