Minister Vesna Pusić met with UNDP Resident Representative in Croatia Louisa Vinton

Pusić and Vinton expressed satisfaction with the long-standing cooperation between Croatia and the UNDP

Pusić and Vinton expressed satisfaction with the long-standing cooperation between Croatia and the UNDP and belief that cooperation and partnership would continue and deepen in the future, especially this year, when Croatia marks the 20th anniversary of its UN membership.

It was described as encouraging that the focus of the UNDP activities in Croatia had gradually shifted from development needs to cooperation in sharing the knowledge and experience with other countries of Southeast Europe.

Vinton recalled that the UNDP programme for Croatia, to be implemented by the end of 2013, foresees US$ 14 million for a number of state and local projects. Pointing out Croatia’s transition from assistance recipient to assistance provider, she expressed conviction that Croatia could become a regional centre of excellence, namely in the transfer of experience gained from the Euro-integration process.

Pusić voiced Croatia's readiness to assist countries in the region on their path to EU membership and recalled the potential for cross-border cooperation with the neighbours in various areas of mutual and regional interest. She also pointed out Croatia’s experience in post-conflict transition, which could prove useful for the countries of south Mediterranean. In that sense, the two officials stressed the importance of the role of the UNDP as regards the possible cooperation in these projects.
