Minister Pusić discusses investment with members of Chile's Croat community

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić met with members of the Croat emigrant community in Santiago de Chile

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić met with members of the Croat emigrant community in Santiago de Chile, who are very much present in Chile's politics, academic life, art and business, said Pusić. "We are talking about a very vibrant community in Santiago and Punta Arenas of mostly Dalmatian descent. One of its most prominent members, Baldo Prokurica, is an incumbent Chilean senator. People here have undivided sympathy for Croatia, they are not politicising their status, they have different political positions but they are united in their positive attitude towards Croatia,” she said, adding that the Croat community, which has shown interest in tourism, should be encouraged to invest in Croatia.

She said that Chile proved very successful in reforming the state administration and high education. For instance, in a ten year period, the number of universities has grown from eight to 60.

Ahead of the meeting with the outgoing president Pinera, Pusić recalled her last year’s visit to Chile. “On that occasion, the prime minister and I held talks with president Pinera. President Josipović and I met with Pinera at the inauguration of Pope Francis as well, so there is a certain tradition of communication here,” Pusić concluded.
