Minister Picula received the representatives of Croats from Montenegro...

On 16 July 2003, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Tonino Picula, received the representatives of Croats from Montenegro: the president of the Croatian Civil Society of Montenegro, Tripo Schubert; the president of the Croatian Civil Initiative, Dalibor Burić; and the president of the Croatian Cultural Society "Progress", Silvije Marković.

The representatives of Croats from Montenegro informed Minister Picula about the current social and political situation and the position of Croats in Montenegro, emphasising the activity of cultural societies and political organisations of Croats, as well as their dissatisfaction with the slow enactment of the Law on the Protection of Minorities, and with the postponement of census. They asked Minister Picula for support in the realisation of the projects planned, stressing that in all the segments of their life the support of the Republic of Croatia is of the utmost importance.

Minister Picula expressed satisfaction with the fact that Croats from Montenegro have proved to be an important factor in the Montenegrin state and society, and said it is necessary to find the way to improve the communication with their people's motherland. Minister Picula said he would personally advocate primarily the economic cooperation, and concluded that the future development of relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Montenegro is impossible without the Croats from Montenegro.
