Foreign Minister Tonino Picula received the newly-appointed Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Croatia, Anna George, in her first visit on 5 November 2003.

During the meeting they stressed that the relations between Australia and Croatia have traditionally been good, and they noted that there are sound foundations for stepping up the political and economic cooperation in the future. They also said that the numerous Croatian immigrants in Australia are an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations, and both sides expressed their satisfaction with the active and successful multilateral cooperation so far.

Minister Picula expressed his satisfaction with the recently reached agreement on the exchange of mutual support concerning the UN Security Council for Australia (2007/2008) and Croatia (2008/2009). Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the signed Social Security Agreement, adding that they expected a follow-up aimed at contractual regulation of issues, particularly in health care and the economy.
