On 18 July 2003, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Tonino Picula, received Charge d' Affaires of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Said Hindam, Head of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt since July 2001, in a farewell visit.

The relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Arab Republic of Egypt have considerably improved in the last two years, particularly after Croatian president Stjepan Mesić attended the opening of the library in Alexandria in October 2002, and the official visit to Egypt by Minister Picula in December 2002 when the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on sea transport was signed.
