Minister Picula received in a courteous visit the Russian delegation...

On 7 July 2003, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Tonino Picula, received in a courteous visit the Russian delegation headed by the Assistant MFA for Security, Anatoly Safonov, who expressed great satisfaction with the results of the working consultations with the Assistant MFA for Economic and Political Multilateral Affairs, Dr. Mario Nobilo.

The talks concerning terrorism, security in the region, and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Croatia within multilateral organisations (UN, OSCE, Council o Europe etc.) were found very fruitful and palpable. Assistant MFA Safonov emphasised that this dialogue opened a new chapter in the cooperation between both states, not just in terms of security, but also in other forms of strengthening stable inter-state relations.

Noting that modern terrorists follow the process of globalisation and are becoming increasingly connected, Minister Picula said that the only remaining solution lies in spreading democracy i.e. in stimulating democracy, because any imposing may only provoke adverse effect and increase the violence. "As a country whose economy considerably depends on tourism which is sensitive even to the smallest of incidents, Croatia attempts to support the stability and security of the region, and for this reason is extremely interested in the cooperation with the Russian Federation both on the bilateral level and within international organisations and forums", concluded Croatian MFA.
