Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula and Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Šimonović have received today, in separate meetings, Hungary's Secretary of State Vilmos Szabo, who is in a one-day official visit to Croatia. Assistant Foreign Minister Nenad Prelog and Hungary's Secretary of State, together with the delegations from both countries, reviewed the current issues of co-operation and experience in minority protection, both in regard to the protection of their national minorities in other countries, and other national minorities in their countries.

The Hungarian delegation informed the Croatian side about the amendments to the Law on Hungarians living outside Hungary due to the complaints from certain international organisations for human rights, as well as from some of the neighbouring countries.

Special attention was given to the recently adopted Constitutional Law on National Minority Rights that gives national minorities in Croatia the right to participate in public life and the running of local businesses through councils and representatives in local government units.

Both sides agreed that the equal treatment of all minority organisations served to improve the position of national minorities and strengthened co-operation between the two countries.
