Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić: Respect for international institutions is the only right thing to go

Commenting on ICTY's exonerating judgment of Generals Gotovina and Markač, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić said it proved “that respect for international institutions and institutions in general is the only right thing to do”

Commenting on ICTY's exonerating judgment of Generals Gotovina and Markač, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić said it proved “that respect for international institutions and institutions in general is the only right thing to do”. Generals Gotovina and Markač are, through the judgment of the Tribunal, free and innocent“.
Speaking about the Independence War and what had been stated in the indictment, the Minister said that “the Tribunal decided that there had been no joint criminal enterprise“, adding that “this judgment does not say anything about the nature of the Independence War and the Independence War itself because the Independence War did not depend on any judgments or declarations before and it does not depend on them now. The fact is, as we knew before the judgment and as we know after the judgment, that the Independence War was defensive and liberating“, said Minister Pusić.

"The ICTY judgment puts beyond any doubt that Generals Markač and Gotovina are innocent. This judgment does not in any way mean amnesty for those convicted of war crimes nor does it mean giving up the prosecution of those accused or suspected of war crimes", stressed the Minister, adding that Croatia will continue to further respect the institutions.
