Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović expressed her deepest condolences on the occasion of Petar Šarčević's death to his wife Susan Šarčević

Petar Šarčević was invited to join the Croatian diplomacy in 1992, due to his outstanding knowledge and reputation, and performed diplomatic duties as the Republic of Croatia first Ambassador in the United States of America from 1992 to 1996. During his mandate, Šarčević laid firm foundations for the Croatian diplomacy in the U.S., taking part in the construction of the first Croatian embassy's building, and making a number of important connections linking the Republic of Croatia to the U.S. His second mandate as an ambassador Šarčević spent in the Swiss Confederation and in the Liechtenstein.
