Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović expressed her condolences to cardinal Eduaro Martinez Somalo on the death of His Holiness John Paul II

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović expressed her condolences today, 2 April 2005, to cardinal Eduaro Martinez Somalo, chamberlain of the Holy Roman Church, on the death of His Holiness John Paul II

The letter reads:

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and myself, I extend to you my deepest condolences on the death of His Holiness John Paul II.

The death of the Holy Father is a great loss for all humanity, as it was with determination and strength that he advocated and defended the truth, freedom, justice and peace in the world while fulfilling his holy duty.

The Croatian people will remember John Paul II with gratefulness, as he in crucial moments understood and supported our wish for a sovereign and independent state, and having three times visited the Republic of Croatia, showed his care for its welfare.

I am convinced that the friendship, co-operation and mutual respect between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia will go on to the wellbeing of all.

Your Excellency, please accept on this sad occasion my deepest respect.
