Minister Jandroković held a bilateral meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State James B. Steinberg

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday, 23 September 2009, with US Deputy Secretary of State James B. Steinberg on the sidelines of the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The collocutors expressed their satisfaction with the high level of friendly and partner-like relations between the two states, and belief in their continued strengthening, especially in the field of economy.

Minister Jandroković expressed gratitude for the support provided by the USA in issues of crucial importance for Croatia, such as the accession to the European Union, within the framework of regional cooperation and in a number of other areas.

Both sides welcomed the strengthening of economic cooperation, since the global economic crisis resulted in decreased trade, as well as in a decline in the number of tourist visits between the two countries, the Minister and the Deputy Secretary of State said. In this context, economic delegations were invited to visit the Republic of Croatia in the near future.

Minister Jandroković and Deputy Secretary of State Steinberg also exchanged views on the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence, as well as the continuation of close cooperation within the enlarged membership of the US-Adriatic Charter. The meeting also touched upon the situation in South Eastern Europe.
