Minister Jandroković held a bilateral meeting with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, David Miliband

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday, 23 September 2009, with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, David Miliband on the sidelines of the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

At the meeting, which was dominated by the subject of Croatia’s accession process, Minister Jandroković said that the Republic of Croatia had fulfilled the majority of its commitments concerning the full accession to the European Union, and had completed working on two thirds of the chapters that are being negotiated. We are currently in the final stage of concluding and meeting all closing benchmarks, and anticipate the negotiation process to continue shortly for 15 chapters, nine of which are ready to be opened, and six of which ready to be closed. The Republic of Croatia has also laid grounds for opening the remaining chapters at the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference on Croatia's accession to the EU. The required reforms have been completed in a majority of the demanding fields, such as shipbuilding, and are continuing in the fields of justice, public administration and within the framework of combat against corruption and organized crime. The meeting also touched upon the recent talks with the Republic of Slovenia and the cooperation of the Republic of Croatia with the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague.

Secretary Miliband pointed out that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland strongly supports Croatia’s efforts to gain full membership of the European Union, and welcomed the unblocking of the accession process and the continuation of negotiations on the full membership of the Republic of Croatia in the EU.
