Minister Grlić Radman participates in panel of Three Seas member states and partners

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Monday participated in the second part of a presidential panel of the fifth Three Seas Initiative summit with member states and partner countries

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Monday participated in the second part of a presidential panel of the fifth Three Seas Initiative summit with member states and partner countries, held in the virtual format this year.

In his keynote address, Grlić Radman welcomed the representatives of the Three Seas partner countries, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and State Secretary at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs Miguel Berger, as well as Executive Vice President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager. He underlined that the Three Seas’ contribution to the EU and its values – cohesion, consolidation and prosperity – was obvious.

“Intergovernmental cooperation in the area of the Initiative represents a natural progress of this informal platform for cooperation between EU member states and enables the implementation of practical solutions aimed at a stronger economic growth. In that context, the Initiative’s projects in the energy, transport and digital sectors represent a precondition for modern economic development,” Grlić Radman said, adding that at the moment one of the main energy projects, the LNG terminal on the Island of Krk, was is nearing completion. With it, Croatia will contribute to energy diversification in the EU.

In addition, the minister welcomed the progress in the Three Seas’ Investment Fund and informed the participants about the Croatian Government’s decision last week to join it.

After the inaugural summit in Dubrovnik in 2016, as well as the summits in Warsaw, Bucharest, Ljubljana and now Tallinn, the next summit of the Three Seas Initiative is the be held in 2021 in Sofia.
