On the second day of his official visit to Turkey, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman attended a ceremony of opening of a school in the region of Adiyaman, damaged by the 6 February 2023 earthquake and rebuilt with support from Croatia. Croatia was among the first countries to help Turkey, having sent 41 members of the national rescue team and seven search-and-rescue dogs.

Grlić Radman reiterated Croatia’s solidarity with Turkey. Croatia has allocated €3.5 million for the reconstruction of educational facilities, of which €1 million went to partnership with UNICEF, highlighting the crucial role of cooperation in the educational sector. The minister underlined Croatia’s commitment to helping the friendly Turkish people, notably Turkish children affected by the consequences of natural disasters.

“Together, we will continue to work to provide the children of Adiyaman and the neighbouring areas all the resources and support, so they could grow more resilient in dealing with hardship,” Grlić Radman said. The three prefab schools represent not only infrastructure, but a chance for quality education and a better life.

The minister, accompanied by UNICEF representatives, Adiyaman governor, representatives from the Turkish ministries of education and foreign affairs as well as other local officials, toured the reconstructed facility, which is a concrete step towards rebuilding and strengthening the two countries’ relations.
