Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Monday in Zagreb participated in Europe Day and the European Year of Youth celebration.

Addressing the event, Grlić Radman underscored the importance of the EU as a project of peace, stability, security and common values, especially in the context of the aggression against Ukraine. “The European Union has throughout all these year managed to remain a peace project. It has also succeeded as a project of economic development, unity and solidarity,” he said, adding that Croatia, as its youngest member state and a victim of aggression, understood best what Ukraine was going through.

The minister reflected on the successful conclusion of the Conference on the Future of Europe, adding that the project involved many Croatian citizens and various events throughout Croatia. “Our talks with citizens on the subject will not stop,” he said, stressing that now more than ever it is necessary to have a dialogue on the future of the Union.

This year we also mark the European Year of Youth, so Grlić Radman underlined that the Conference saw a lot of valuable feedback and suggestions from young people on how to improve the Union.

“We are committed to advancing the European project, while not forgetting our national interests and fostering our sovereignty in a modern and solidary way,” the minister said, adding that Croatia was a constructive partner that believed in the European project and had proven so during its EU presidency in the first half of 2020.
