State Secretary Zdenko Lucić attends sixth Brussels Conference

State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić attended the sixth Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region”, co-chaired by High Representative Josep Borrell and Commissioners Janez Lenarčič and Olivér Várhelyi.
 
Also participating in the conference were UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
 
The participants reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the UN special envoy’s efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian conflict and underscored the importance of mobilizing adequate financial support for the affected Syrian population.
 
Addressing the event, Lucić underlined Croatia’s full support for a lasting political solution in line with Resolution 2254 and the Geneva Communiqué as well as Pedersen’s efforts. He recalled that in 2021 the Croatian government had adopted a decision ensuring long-term financial support for developmental and humanitarian projects aimed at helping the refugees and displaced persons in Syria and the neighbouring countries.
 
For 2022, Croatia has allocated USD 200 000 for projects aimed at the most vulnerable groups of Syrian population, notably women, children and youth, Lucić reported.
